It was heartening to see our MP Mr Mackinlay so jubilant with the win for the people of Thurrock over the discount he helped to procure of the toll charges at Dartford Crossing.
When he had the ear of the Minister Mr Ladyman dare I hope he took the oppurtunity to mention the other bridge which has bedevilled the people of Tilbury for more than nine years, the footbridge at Tilbury Railway Station, which everybody knows doesn't comply with the Disabled Rights Regulations introduced by this government in 2005?
The minister is aware, the Disabled Rights Commission is aware, Strategic Rail is aware, the MP is aware, the Council is aware, the Rail Passengers Co-operation is aware, all the local political parties are aware, even c2c are aware that, as the transport provider it is their responsibility to conform with the regulations, but they refuse to as none of the bodies mentioned will accept their responsibility to ensuring that the provider fulfils their obigation to the public.
Once again it is great news that the tolls are to be pegged at a lesser price for the people of Thurrock and as it is election time in the area hopefully when the next period of elections come round maybe someone somewhere will try to do something about this bridge, which was built knowing it didn't meet with the regulations in existence even then.
