FOR once I happily endorse Jackie Doyle-Price’s comments “that we have freedoms in this country, but many take these freedoms for granted”.

I agree people should get involved and they should use their vote. Unfortunately, however, it is the politicians that have turned people off voting and politics in general.

Our democracy was hard won, two generations died in their millions to protect it, voters should respect that and get involved. Compared to their sacrifice attending every few years and putting a cross on a ballot paper, it is not too much to ask.

This country could be a better place if more people were to engage with politics.

But it would be an infinitely better place if voters could trust in their political leaders, if they cut out the political point scoring and just told the truth.

Maybe then voters would be more inclined to get involved.
