Forced back into car for school run

OUR daughters get the regular service bus to school as we do not live more than three miles away.

Therefore we decided it would be better to get a monthly ticket, which cost £18 each in September 2007.

Then Ensign raised the cost to £20 each which I can understand as prices do go up, but now they have increased to £25 each.

This is a lot per month for two children to get to school.

Surely we should be encouraged to use local transport not be put off by the raising costs. We have a car and next month will no longer be using the bus service.

Mr and Mrs Bannister,

Waterson Road, Chadwell St Mary.

Unless these two girls are disabled in such a way to make walking to school less than 3 miles difficult, I can neither see the need for a bus or car.

Nothing to do with the rising costs of fuel? Higher insurance costs? Higher taxes on vehicles?

Have you contacted the bus company for an explanation for the rising costs?

Dave, did you used to walk to school and if so how far was it?
