STANFORD-LE-HOPE AND CORRINGHAM TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
2:29pm Wednesday 25th April 2012 in Club Call
JENNIE White welcomed members and eight visitors to hear the second half of Harold Irons’ very interesting, personal memories of his life in Bomber Command.
Harold spoke of the training of young Canadians and the terrible dangers faced by them.
In recognition of Bomber Command, a statue of a bomber crew, sculpted in Ireland out of Portland stone, will be unveiled in Green Park, London, on June 28.
Harry asked for a donation to be forwarded to Bomber Command towards the £1.5million needed for the upkeep of the statue.
After a tour of the bluebell woods around Wesley Heights last month, the ramblers are at Rainham Marshes on Wednesday, May 2, meeting at 10.30am.
Various commemorative tins were submitted for the monthly competition which was won by Pam Lawrence.
The next meeting is at 7.30pm on May 9 in Corringham Village Hall when Tony Curtis will be speaking on life in Japan. The competition is an original photograph of a building or landscape in the UK.
Our small, friendly guild welcomes visitors for a small charge of £2.50 per meeting.
