THE Rotary Club of Corringham Thameside recently hosted their annual fishing day for handicapped and special needs children.
The event was held at the Anniversary Lake in South Ockendon and was attended by 17 children from local schools and Special Needs Activities Club.
Each child had a mentor from the Anniversary fishing Club who provided all the equipment and the assistance for the fishing.
A total of 446 fish were landed by the children in less than four hours, with George Brown catching a fine 66 fish.
Not to be outdone by her brother, Abigail Brown, the smallest of the children present, landed the biggest fish of the afternoon, a massive seventeen-pound carp.
All the children went home with a trophy for their efforts with Abigail taking home an additional prize of a rod, bait box and cap given to her by the fishing club.
In addition to the fishing, the Rotarians were kept busy providing a steady stream of hamburgers, hot dogs and soft drinks for the youngsters. The fishing club presented a cheque for £260 to Rotary for their charity work.
