Six month pilot for CCTV spy car agreed
10:25am Thursday 18th October 2012 in News
A CCTV car will soon be patrolling the borough after Thurrock Council's cabinet agreed a six month pilot last night.
The spy car will issue fines for a range of parking issues around the borough, but will concentrate on parking outside schools and illegally parked lorries.
Cllr Angie Gaywood, portfolio holder for public protection, said the pilot will be self-funding so is a "win-win situation" and will increase safety outside schools.
The car will be visiting every school on a regular basis, and anyone found to have parked illegally will be fined a minimum of £35 for each offence, or £75 if they delay payment.

What about looking for the idiots that park blocking roads overnight, or park fully on pavements stopping oaps using scooters.

Perhaps they should spend some time takling some of the real problems of crime and anti social behaviour in the borough - or is there no cash to be made from tackling the real issues?

What a joke, attacking parents!

Whilst I don't disagree Fletch, this is surely only for a very little time on weekdays only, whilst other issues we have to live with 24/7.

From your attitude, you appear to think this is an altruistic attempt to save children lives. Think again.

Ask yourself why they are focusing on these two offenses...Duh

It is also about time some parents walked there kids to school instead of driving half a mile, and blocking the local roads. :o)

The school run is superbly simple target, parents often rushing to and from work, have few options of where to park and BINGO cash cow (kerching!) for the council while they prattle on about illegal parking outside schools, knowing that parents don't have the options of anywhere legal to park, especially around infant schools.
Similarly lorries as there are probably places where they park regularly, so again easy target.
If any of you commenting get caught like friends of mine have in Basildon and Southend, just dropping someone off, I hope you take it graciously.
If the council took action and responsibility for getting money in that it is owed, they wouldn't need things like this. I also wonder if this has been pushed through after the report I read that said councils will have to publish the number of parking spaces they have and the amount of money they rake in. Which I believe is part of the High St vs out of town shopping debate
