Port police up for award

THE Port of Tilbury Police Force has been nominated for a St John Ambulance First Aid Award.

The 200-year-old police force is up to win in the public sector and not-for-profit category of the service’s awards.

The port’s force has been carrying out first aid duties for many years and at one time even ran its own ambulance service.

It will find out whether it has beaten off competition from six other organisations at a special ceremony in London, hosted by Survival star Ray Mears.

Perry Glading, chief operating officer of Forth Ports, owners of the Port of Tilbury, said: “We are delighted the Port of Tilbury police force has been shortlisted at the St John Ambulance First Aid Awards.

“Health and safety is a prime consideration for us and we value highly the service this dedicated police force provides.”
