GRAYS Convent School has taken delivery of a new £35,000 minibus.

Four pupils at the school, in College Avenue, won the 15 seater vehicle in a national competition run by Ford to design an eco friendly, futuristic vehicle.

The Convent’s Maria Rooke, Connie Rahman, Shunuma Limbu and Seun Olumu, beat off competition from more than 200 entries from other schools across the country.

Ford Britain trustee Mike Callaghan and staff from the motor company joined Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price at the school last week to handover the minibus.

Deputy head Dawn Collis said: “It was so exciting to welcome the team from Ford and to celebrate the handover of our shiny new minibus. I know it will be put to good use.

“I’d like to thank Ford, our pupils for their creativity and Mrs Pugh, their design and technology teacher, for encouraging the girls to enter the competition.”
