Bar's invite to aspiring bands

A BAR in Grays is offering local bands a stage on which to showcase their talent.

Burtons, which sits above Blockbuster on the High Street, came under new management 18 months ago and is now offering local bands the opportunity to play their town centre venue.

There is live music most weeks and entry is free.

The venue recently hosted a successful Battle of the Bands competition, which saw 80 local groups entering, spanning an eight month period.

Eventual winners Besidemyself were crowned two weeks ago and won a cash prize of £1,000.

Burtons manager Roy Evans said: “There’s no where else for local live bands to perform in the area. We get so many bands from Palmers and from the local schools.

“I would definitely encourage people to come down and check out local live talent. “It’s always free, so people can just walk out as easily as they walked in.”

Burtons is hosting a Halloween “all-dayer” on October 27, with local band Bow Street Runners headlining. To play at the venue, call Roy on 07763 401735.

Good news, but nowhere else?
The Shell Club as was and the The Castlemayne, admittedly nowhere else in Grays. There are also a number of pubs etc in Essex that have live bands.

Maybe the likes of the bloke doing X-Factor at the moment should do these places to see if they have what it takes. rather than going on some get famous quick programme, which pander to a certain type of person.
