Housing office closure plan set to be discussed

THURROCK Council’s new housing committee will examine a proposal to close two of the borough’s housing offices on Wednesday, October 10.

News of the potential closures, affecting Purfleet and Corringham, was first reported in August.

Chairman of the new housing scrutiny committee, Cllr Rob Gledhill, said: “Conservatives were very clear in our manifesto at the local elections this year that we wanted to protect vital housing office services.

“We will look at ways of securing the long-term future of the offices when the committee meets.”

It is good to see the Consevatives aren't prejudiced against fat people. Now they just need to promote one of their gay members to show they are like Camerons new model Conservative party.

Didn't the Tories want to close the housing offices, transfer the services to the libaries and sell off the empty offices?

The cost of the housing offices does'nt come from council tax, it is paid from the rents paid by council tenants.

The housing revenue account in Thurrock runs at a surplus so they can afford to run the housing offices and build thousands of new council homes.

If they close the offices are they going to cut rents or are they planning another inflation busting hike?

The plan to close the offices was originally a Conservative idea stolen by Labour.
