Tennis court and bike track for village

MORE than £140,000 will be spent on installing a new a tennis court and stunt bike track in Aveley.

Work has started on the new facilities, which will be built on the village’s recreation ground and should be ready by October.

Conservative ward councillors, Wendy Herd and Maureen Pearce, arranged for the funds to be spent in the park.

Cllr Herd said: “Since Conservatives were first elected in Aveley all four parks have seen improvements.

“This has been achieved with direct consultation and involvement of Aveley’s young people.

“In return they have respected the equipment and reports of damage have been extremely low.”

Cllr Pearce added: “Families and young people in Aveley have said they would like to see a local legacy from the Olympics and everyone is pleased work has started.

“Wendy and I believe projects like this should be rolled out across Thurrock by creative use of planning monies.”
