Post office: We're committed to Grays

THE Post Office has confirmed it remains committed to maintaining a good service in Grays, despite its current town centre branch closing.

The Gazette reported last week how WH Smith, which houses the post office, has decided not to renew the lease on its shop when it runs out in March, citing “commercial reasons”.

The decision has prompted fears the town will be left without its biggest post office.

A Post Office spokesman said it is working on a solution.

She said: “We have been advised of the withdrawal of premises for post office use in March 2013.

“We would like to reassure customers that we are committed to maintaining services to people in the Grays area.

“We will be working hard to find a solution which allows us to ensure there is no break in service when the current branch closes in March next year.”

The story has proved to be a hot topic on the Gazette’s website, with may fearing the closure spells disaster for the town.

Marcus P said: “Oh dear, sad news, but not surprising.

“One step forward, three back seems to be the call for Grays town centre.”
