Fine for pub licensee who breached noise abatement notice

A PUB licensee has been fined £2,000 for breaching a noise abatement notice.

Peter Thacker, who runs the Jack O Lantern Pub, in Daiglen Drive, South Ockendon, pleaded guilty to the breach, which happened in February this year.

Basildon Magistrates Court heard on Monday that a noise abatement notice was served on Mr Thacker in November 2011 after loud music coming from the pub disturbed residents.

A similar incident happened in February and was witnessed by Environmental Protection Officers from Thurrock Council.

Mr Thacker pleaded guilty to the breach by post.

Cllr Angie Gaywood, Thurrock Council’s portfolio holder for Public Protection said: “This prosecution demonstrates that Thurrock Council will not tolerate noise nuisance and this case should serve as a reminder to businesses to act responsibly in the community and respect their neighbours.”

If you’ve got a noise nuisance problem, officers can be contacted on the out of hours noise service on Friday and Saturday nights between 9pm and 3am on 07788 200200.

Outside of these hours, complaints can be made to the Environmental Protection Team by calling 01375 652955

Wish someone would come and listen to the racket from the Billet Pub in Billet Lane, music blaring out sometimes til quarter to 1 in the morning. I called out of hours team but nothing's changed. Midnight again last week, some people have to work the next day.
