Coroner rules Tilbury teen's death was an accident

THE death of a teenager who crashed into lamp post was an accident, a coroner has ruled.

Cameron Phillips, 16, was killed instantly when he crashed his moped into a lamp post in Tilbury on Sunday, March 11.

Cameron, who lived in the town’s Sullivan Road, and was looking forward to a career in engineering, was riding his white Piaggio moped along Brennan Road when he lost control and hit the lamp post at about 8pm.

The road was closed for around eight hours while forensic experts from Essex Police examined the scene.

At the inquest into Cameron’s death, which was heard at County Hall in Chelmsford last Monday, Essex coroner Caroline Beasley-Murray recorded a verdict of accident.
