Man arrested over theft from amputee soldier
10:24am Wednesday 12th September 2012 in News
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of stealing £85,000 from his soldier best friend who was blown up in Afghanistan.
Connor Aldous, 21, was best man to his wounded pal Alex Stringer and helped him walk down the aisle.
But he has been arrested on suspicion of stealing the cash, which was part of £800,000 compensation awarded to Mr Stringer after he lost an arm and both legs while on the frontline.
Aldous, who is from Grays, was arrested last Thursday and has been bailed until October while police investigate.
Mr Stringer, 23, formerly of Chadwell St Mary but now living on Canvey, was serving in Afghanistan as a private with the Pioneer Regiment Royal Logistics Corps in January 2011 when he trod on a mine planted by the Taleban. He lost both legs and an arm.
After recovering from his injuries Mr Stringer returned home where he was awarded the compensation.
He married his childhood sweetheart Danielle and the couple are expecting their third child.
