Crunch a car for the hospice
7:00am Sunday 9th September 2012 in News
ST LUKE’S Hospice wants your old car, no matter how rusty it is.
The Basildon-based hospice has teamed up with Give a Car for a novel way to boost funds.
The award-winning social enterprise company will collect any unwanted car, no matter what its condition, free of charge.
The vehicle is then sold through an online auction, or disposed of in environmentally friendly fashion at an authorised treatment facility.
Any money raised is then given straight to the hospice.
Marilyn Debattista, from St Luke’s, said: ‘’In response to the challenging economic climate, the hospice is having to seek new opportunities to generate income, so we have teamed up with Give a Car.
“As well as supporting St Luke’s, the scheme is intended to discourage irresponsible owners who may consider abandoning their car, spoiling the appearance of the local environment and also costing local taxpayers money to remove and dispose of them.
‘’This is a simple, effective and socially beneficial way of attracting a new source of donations to support the hospice as well as reducing the amount of unwanted or unused cars lying around.’’
If you would like to donate your car to St Luke’s, call Give a Car on 0200 0111664, or go online to www.giveacar.co.uk and choose St Lukes Hospice Basildon and Thurrock as your nominated charity.
A tow truck should arrive within three days to pick up your vehicle.
