Annual meeting set for association

THURROCK Asian Association will hold its annual general meeting on Sunday, September 9.

The meeting will be held at the TAA Resource Centre, in Clarence Road, Grays, from 5.30pm to 7pm.

The association is looking for new volunteers for its committee, and elections will take place on the night.

Other events on the association’s calendar include Diwali celebrations at the Thameside Theatre, in Grays, on Saturday, November 24, from 6pm to 9pm.

Preparations for the event are under way, and anyone who would like to take part in the cultural programme is urged to contact a member of the association’s committee.

A grant from Thurrock CVS means the association is able to reduce ticket prices for the event this year to £5 for adults and £2 for children aged under-11.

The tickets, which will be also available at the theatre’s box office from October 1, include refreshments.

There are a number of classes and activities to enjoy at the association’s resource centre and other venues every week.

Yoga teacher Gajanan Pawar takes a class every Saturday from noon to 1pm, and there is also exercise equipment in the centre available for use.

Tai Chi For Health classes run at the centre every Tuesday from 11am to noon, and the class is free and open to anyone.

Bollywood dance lessons are available for youngsters once a fortnight on a Tuesday, from 8pm to 9pm at Grays School.

The class is taught by a professional dance teacher and members have performed on a number of occasions at different community events in the borough.

There are music classes for children at the resource centre from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesdays, and adult music classes on two Wednesdays a month between 11am and 1pm. Call the association on 01375 400238.
