A DANCE school principal from Grays has told of her joy at getting to dance with the famous Darcey Bussell at the Olympics closing ceremony.

Vicky, who runs the Martell School of Dance, said she is still on a high from the performance on Sunday night.

She said: “It was phenomenal and truly one of the best days of my life that I will never forget.”

Darcey, formerly a principal ballerina for the Royal Ballet, came out of retirement to dance in the ceremony. She “flew” into the stadium on a flaming phoenix to dance a piece by Christopher Wheeldon, joined by more than 200 other ballet dancers.

As well as sharing the stage with the country’s most famous ballerina, Vicky also got to meet her afterwards, and keep her costume as a momento of the occasion.

Many of Vicky’s pupils were allowed to stay up and watch their teacher on the TV.
