A13 pile up causes late night traffic chaos

FOUR men have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the A13.

The incident happened between the junction for Stanford-Le-Hope and the Five Bells interchange on the A13, shortly before 8pm on Thursday night.

Some motorists were stuck in traffic for over an hour-and-a-half whilst emergency services rushed to the scene.

The road reopened just after 10.30pm.

The collision involved three cars, a grey Ford Fiesta, a white Volkswagen Beetle and a Peugeot 206.

Later on Tuesday night, eye witnesses at the scene took to Twitter to say that one of the cars had been travelling very fast moments before the crash.

Thurrock councillor Phil Anderson, who was also on the road at the time, tweeted saying: "A13 Stanford solid for last hour, we are all stopped on carriageway. All three services have come through, doesn't look good..."

A police investigation is continuing. Witnesses can contact PC Jason Mowbrey at the Laindon road policing unit on 101.

How on earth can you say that a car was travelling at a certain speed? Unless you have the equipment.
Enough to say they were going a bit too fast.
I wonder if the eye witnesses live along Southend Road in Corringham, as they seem to be able to tell the exact speed a vehicle is travelling at.

Maybe eye witnesses at the scene was allready Travelling at 60 that is the limit on the A13 when the cars were over or under taking them ?
For some reason why do people seem to think its acceptable to travel at 70 or much more along this carridgeway ?

I don’t condone any speeding but I would like to put the record straight for the speed limit on the A13 Dual carriageway, it is 70mph.
