LOCALS at The Ship pub in Aveley were treated to a piece of Olympic history as the Games got under way.

Diane Wilson, from Thurrock, is the daughter of Nellie Carrington, who competed in the high jump at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

Diane brought in her mum’s official kit from the games as well as photographs and newspaper cuttings for everyone to look at.
