Road accidents down in Thurrock
4:15pm Monday 6th August 2012 in News
ROAD accidents in Thurrock reduced significantly last year, bucking the national trend.
Accidents involving children who were killed or seriously injured was down 73 per cent on 2010, and road accidents in general saw a reduction of ten per cent.
Thurrock Council believes the decrease is down to a result of programmed educational initiatives and road safety schemes it has delivered with Europa, including kerbcraft, pedestrian training, bikeability cycle training, Be Bright Be Seen, Twilight Trails, as well as a programme of physical improvement measures on the local highway network.
llr Andy Smith, portfolio holder for regeneration, highways and transportation, said: "Making safer roads for residents in Thurrock is one of the top priorities for the council and this result proves that by implementing schemes like this, we are heading in the right direction."
