Sisters awarded for fundraising effort

TWO women from Grays have been rewarded for their fundraising efforts by Cancer Research UK.
Sue Wood and Barbara Jacobs, who are sisters and run Buddies Hair Fashions, in Southend Road, were given the charity’s Corporate Supporter of the Year award.
The pair started fundraising for Cancer Research UK 37 years ago, following the passing of their brother Ron, who died of throat cancer in 1974 aged just 30.
Sue and Barbara, whose salon opened in the same year, also lost their father to skin cancer and saw their mother suffer from bowel cancer.
Through annual Christmas raffles in the salon, the sisters have raised nearly £40,000 for the charity, with the last raffle raising £1,200.
Their success was celebrated at a recent Flame of Hope charity bash in the Russell Hotel, Russell Square, London.
Barbara said: “Receiving the Flame of Hope was an incredibly special and momentous day for Sue and I. We were honoured.”
