Jewellers raided at Lakeside shopping centre

A WOMAN has been injured in a raid on a jewellers at Lakeside Shopping Centre.

The gang of three men, wielding a knife and an axe and dressed in dark hoodies and scarves, targeted Goldsmiths just before 10.30am today [July 19].

They forced staff to hand over three Rolex watches, before jumping into a black Audi hatchback and making off.

A search of the area was conducted by armed police and the police helicopter. The suspects car was found abandoned on Grifon Road.

One female member of staff at Goldsmiths sustained injuries to her hand in the terrifying attack, but the injuries were minor and she did not require treatment.

A spokeswoman for Aurum Holdings, the group that own the Goldsmiths chain, said: "Our store teams are clearly shaken by the robbery and we will continue to support and care for them whilst also assisting the police in their investigation. "

Police are urging anyone with information of the robbery to contact detectives at Grays police station on 101.

More organised crime committed in Thurrock. This borough is getting worse and worse.

Obviously not the quiet place I left back in 1986. West Thurrock will always be home to me, and I fear for the safety of my mother at times because it has changed so very much from what I understand. I haven't been home for 27 yrs and sadly I don't think I will ever want to come home. I hope the council will make some changes to make the community safer. I hate to say it being an immigrant myself (In Canada), but the insane amount of immigrants in Thurrock has made a negative impact on the community

Clearly this robbery was well planned at a time when Lakeside would be fairly quiet. Maybe more security is needed in Lakeside during the early morning period.

to dawnmary1: I'm a Briton myself. please enlighten me how exactly this robbery relates to immigration? you are one to talk being away 27 years and all, what is actually insane about your comment is the fact that you pretend to validate it by mentioning that you are an immigrant yourself. I say worry about building up your newfound community over there for you quit the one you originitated from in the place, ask Canadians how they feel about you being there, worry about that....This robbery only exposes the lack of security and how those responsible for said security are not up to the task. Let those who still believe in the greatness of this nation and live in it, immigrants or not, worry and work towards its future.

To be fair to Lakeside, even if security was stepped up, it would still not deter criminals out there willing to take the risk.

Let's hope that Essex Police catch them and they are locked up for a considerable amount of time.

A lot of these robberies are planned well in advance, usually from black criminal gangs from London who have connections to Thurrock.

The Essex Police have no chance of catching anyone, they couldn't find there own backsides with both hands!
