IT’S the “greatest fairytale never told”, and now a South Ockendon girl is bound for the West End to play a part in its stage production.
Skye Meade, 10, of Garron Lane, has been picked to perform in the musical Shrek, which opened at the Drury Lane theatre last July.
The Dilkes Primary School pupil has been selected to play the part of the Grumpy Dwarf and Young Shrek, following several auditions.
Skye will perform 71 shows during her tenure on the stage and is set to start rehearsals on July 16, with the first show being on July 25.
Mum Lorraine, 41, says she is overwhelmingly proud of Skye, who has always wanted to perform in the West End.
She said: “Skye found out a few weeks ago and she’s really, really excited. It’s always been her dream to be in a West End musical.
“I’m overwhelmingly proud of her.”
Skye’s dream is becoming ever more real, following her costume fitting on Friday afternoon.
Before getting the part, the youngster enjoyed a successful year with her dance school, the Inspiration School of Dance in Aveley, winning a number of awards, both in the UK and abroad.
One competition saw her perform at EuroDisney, where she came second overall but first in her class.
Skye has also graced the stage in Thurrock, playing one of the children in Robin Hood at the Thameside Theatre in Grays.
