The presentation to the Rising Sun The presentation to the Rising Sun

THE Rising Sun pub in Stanford-le-Hope has won Essex Area Pub of the Year.

The award, from the South West Essex Campaign For Real Ale, organisation was presented to landlord Ray Ellis, by chairman Ann Radley.

The pub, in Church Hill, came second for the award in 2011.

Ray said: “We are really pleased to come first out of 230 pubs.

“We set out to provide the community with a pub based on old values and traditions.”

And what a wonderful pub to drink in! Not only do they have a fantastic selection of real ales, the staff are friendly and everyone is made to feel welcome! Well done Ray, Sandra and the rest of the Rising Sun crew! :0)

Such a shame about those plans to demolish the Rising Sun and Railway and replace with flats and a supermarket.

The plans are for the King Street car park with a supermarket at ground level and adapted flats above it. However I am aware that nothing has been confirmed and in fact it doesn't look as though it'll be going ahead anyway. I can assure you that the Rising Sun will be around for many years to come.
