Variety day planned in Corringham for Karis' foundation

THE Karis May Darling Foundation is holding a special variety day on Saturday, June 23.

The event, in memory of Karis Darling, a 12-year-old from Corringham who died in April last year after contracting streptococcus A infection, is on from 12.30pm to 8pm at Gable Hall School’s football ground, in Southend Road, Corringham.

Acts confirmed to perform live on stage so far include Unity, P45, and the Tootsie Rollers.

There will also be a display of army vehicles by the Coalhouse Fort team, an army cadet’s assault course, kids zone, sports zone, and traditional stalls, a BBQ and beer tent, among other attractions.

Entry is a minimum of £1 per person.

Karis, whose organs saved the lives of five other people, was a talented performer and also interested in sports.

Her parents Kerri and John started a foundation in her memory to support under-priveledged children in the arts and sport.

One of the foundation’s aims is to raise £220,000 for a community centre.

The family have already acquired some land for the centre and have managed to raise around £90,000 for the project so far.
