Academy to stage Literary Arts Festival

AN ART exhibition, musical, barn dance and pamper evening are just some events being hosted by the Gateway Academy as it stages a Literary Arts Festival.

The two-week cultural bonanza coincides with the Thurrock Art Trail and Olympics.

Starting on June 25 with free family screenings of A Monster in Paris and Woman in Black, the Ellis Theatre at the Academy, which is in Marshfoot Road, Tilbury, will be staging events each night.

Festival highlights are likely to be a performance of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat by pupils at Gateway, in association with Lansdown Primary School and Herringham Primary School. The show will be on Monday, July 2, and Tuesday, July 3.

Before that, there will be an art exhibition, a GLC club night for pupils in Years 6, 7 and 8, a tea dance for local senior citizens, a pamper evening on Thursday, June 28, and a barn dance the following evening.

In the second week, after the school musical, there will be bingo for over-18s on Thursday, July 5, and an afternoon of jazz on Friday, July 6.
