Tilbury launch new stadium plans

PLANS to redevelop the home of Tilbury Football Club have been proposed at a meeting to supporters.

The club’s vision for a new community-orientated stadium were unveiled at its current ground last Wednesday evening.

The plans are still being developed by the club, who are working with Montana Property Development Company.

The Dockers’ Chadfield ground, a former greyhound racing venue in St Chads Road, can hold 4,000 people, with 350 seated, and has been home to the club since the end of the Second World War.

Anna Kocerhan, of Sports Solutions GB, a sports and leisure consultancy company, outlined the plans, which involve building a new stadium on neighbouring land owned by the club.

Land on which the stadium currently sits would then be sold for housing development.

Illustrations of the proposed new stadium were presented at the meeting and those there had the opportunity to give feedback.

A Sports Solutions statement said: “Thurrock has a requirement for new infrastructure and housing. The team of experts working with Tilbury FC believe Chadfields can be redeveloped to provide new housing for Tilbury and a modern and sustainable new community sporting facility.

“The club is seeking to promote Chadfields for development so it might be included in Thurrock’s preferred sites allocations.”

The statement also said the club, who currently ply their trade in Ryman League Division One North, recognise the need to develop the current ground for “the next generation of football players”, adding a further public consultation will be held to gauge opinion on the ambitious plans.

The club is the second in Thurrock to announce plans for a new ground, after Grays Athletic also did recently.
