Top award for Thurrock Learning Shop

AN ADULT learning hub in Grays has won a national award.
The Thurrock Learning Shop, in Grays Town Centre has been recognised with an Inspiring Learning Project Award.
The award, which ties in with Adult Learning Week from 12 to 18 May, has been awarded by the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education and is testament to the project’s dedication and commitment to providing learning opportunities to help people improve their lives.
The Learning Shop, launched in 2009, was set up to encourage more adults in the region to participate in further education. The area has a traditionally low rate of school leavers who to continue in edcuation.
More than 2,000 adults have taken part in educational activities thanks to the centre.
Thurrock Learning Shop manager Debbie Brisco said: “The Shop has quickly established itself as a much-valued community hub and resource. As well as the Information, Advice and Guidance it provides, it also hosts a full range of activities, taster sessions, workshops and short courses.”
