COALHOUSE Fort’s first ever History Day proved a huge success, despite the rainy weather.

Crowds gathered at the fort, in East Tilbury, to watch re-enactors portray important military events from Victorian times through to the Second World War.

Highlights included routines by the 10th Essex Regiment, a parade of costumes by the Victorian Strollers, and an appearance by the Kriegsmarine Submariners.

There was also a display of uniforms and vehicles by the fort’s post-war army group, and equipment to look at together with the fort’s aircraft and military history museums.
