Fisherman devastated by £10,000 break-in

A DEVOTED fisherman has been left devastated after thieves stole £10,000 worth of his equipment.

Crooks broke into the house in Bevin Way, Stanford-le-Hope after removing locks and a window.

Once inside they stole the haul of fishing gear which the victim had spent a lifetime building up.

Among the haul were a handmade rod and silver Shimano reels.

The break-in happened between Wednesday April 25 and Thursday April 26.

£10,000?
Just because a rod is handmade does not mean it has to be expensive. Even really good ones only retail in the hundreds. As for the "silver" Shimano reels...hmmm...
I have not heard of any but then they could have been specially commissioned. Even then I would still have to ask why silver? Even the most dedicated fishermen prefer decent, pristine, smooth mechanics over bling.
There is the possibility, of course, that some of the equipment stolen was very rare and antique but, call me a cynic, maybe the £10,000 figure was reached because the insurance company has been called in.

They've reported two of the items taken, probably the two that was closest to him, do you personally know how much else was taken?
Very slanderous comments.

This Victim must be feeling very eel with the loss, I would suggest he flounders around the plaice's like chav-converters to look for his overpriced gear, Seriously £10k on some rods n reels is he a designer fisherman or just think the carp will just get hooked so they can boast about getting hooked by him.

To be fair it hasnt been stated exactly what was stolen, in my book if a fisherman was into sea fishing, carp fishing and fly fishing like a lot of fisherman are, including myself then over the years its suprising how much you would collect and how much all the stuff costs. My fly fishing equipment alone is valued at retail prices of over 2700 pounds, and thats not top of the range stuff.
Sea fishing, a top of the range reel is in excess of £350 +.
Carp fishing gear is very expensive bivvies rods, reels, barrows the list is endless for a serious carp angler.
I hope this guy gets some if not all his stuff back although the chance is low at least if he has insurance he can replace it.

Sounds like whoever did this knew exactly what they were going for and given how they got in, knew they would have the time to do it.
Obviously been telling people about his kit and it has got about. No chance of getting this back as I imagine it was sold before it was nicked.
