A THURROCK musician is set to play a gig with X Factor finalist Marcus Collins.

Arthur Walwin, of Drake Close, Chafford Hundred, has landed a support slot with the show’s star when he performs at The Venue, in St Osyth, Clacton, on May 19.

Marcus Collins came second on the smash ITV show in 2011 and will be touring with his new, self-titled album, which came out earlier this month.

Arthur, 21, who has a recording studio at his Chafford Hundred home, will open the gig. It will be the first time he has played his solo music live.

Speaking to the Gazette, Arthur said: “I was really stoked to hear I had been offered the gig.

“I never really watched the X Factor, but I’ve been really looking forward to it.”

Arthur went to the Chafford Hundred School, now known as the Harris Academy, before going to Palmers College and then to the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, to study for a degree in Music Procduction. The talented musician has played in various bands, and currently plays guitar in Paige, which has toured with the likes of British rock sensation You Me At Six.

But last year, Arthur took the step of recording on his own. He sent CDs to a number of record companies before signing for Kent-based label Engineer Records in December.

Arthur added: “I like all sorts of music, but my own stuff is just the sort of stuff I feel like playing.

“I like Adele, The Fray and Coldplay but the band I play in, Paige, are a pop punk band, so I have loads of influences.”

Arthur’s first single All For You has already been released and there are plans in motion to shoot a video for it. Arthur is also in the process of assembling a band and organising a solo UK tour.

“The feedback I’ve had online has been amazing and the gig in May is going to be a great way to get started.” The single is available to buy now on iTunes.
