Film festival deadline looming large

THE Thurrock Film Festival team has been inundated with entries from around the world ahead of Tuesday’s closing date.

Films for the borough’s first ever festival have come in from Australia, America, Canada, Eastern Europe, Asia and Brazil.

Organisers Natalie Williams and Ben Scarsbrook said one of the best entries they’ve received so far is from Thurrock. Ben, 23, from Grays, said: “We have been very busy and are constantly surprised at how much work it takes to run a film festival.

“The deadline is May 1 and already we have reached the target we set when we started, and we’re still getting entries through each day.

“We were delighted one of the best films we have received so far is from Thurrock. Of course we can't say which one at this point.”

Ben added: “We are currently going through each film and starting to select which ones will be going off to our panel of judges.

“However the competition is still open and every film we receive, up to May 1, we will watch and assess fairly.”

The festival is at the Thameside Theatre, in Grays, from June 24 to 30.
