  • "An even bigger wow is Labour showing any interest in business big or small.
Maybe if they had paid more attention to business when they were in govt for 13 years, then maybe, just maybe we wouldn't be where we are now. But that would mean allowing some degree of self determination for people and not imposing punitive taxes and other things on business. Meaning they may have been able to employ people and keep the economy bouyant. But then that wouldn't be Labour."

SHADOW minister for small business, Toby Perkins, pictured here with Polly Billington, the Labour parliamentary candidate for Thurrock, attended a business breakfast in Grays.

He spoke to more than 40 representatives from small businesses in the area at the Thurrock Network Group meeting.

He said: “What people here have been stressing is the need for the Government to take really strong action to get growth and confidence back into our economy.

“We would reduce VAT back to 17.5 per cent and get more money back into people’s pockets.”
