THE shopkeeper who sold Stanford-le-Hope Lotto winner Julie Styles her lucky ticket said he thought rumours of the win were a hoax.

Mo Sangera, 48, owns the Corringham Grocers in Woodbrooke Way, Corringham, where the winning £1.6million ticket was bought.

He is thrilled one of his regulars has been lucky, but still took a while to take the news in.

He said: “It couldn’t have happened to a nicer lady, she’s a hard- working single mum. “I get lots of banter from customers saying they never win anything at this shop. But now it’s our day.”

Mo added: “Someone told me about it on Monday, but I thought it was a hoax. Then the next day, I saw the front of the Echo and I couldn’t believe it.

“The papers all sold out quickly and we had to order more.”

Mo has since congratulated Julie in person with a bunch of flowers and a card.
