Care home provision changes discussed

IDEAS to change the provision of residential homes for the elderly were proposed at the relaunch of a sheltered accommodation group.
As demand for residential care homes continues to rise, the Catholic Women’s League Housing organisation, formerly the Brentwood Branch Housing Association, outlined its ideas for a “cluster concept” of rented shared housing. It is thought that by 2020, the number of over-65s in Thurrock will have risen by 47-per-cent.
Mayor Charlie Curtis and Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle Price were amongst a host of guests at the group’s relaunch.
The cluster concept proposes local care homes come together to buy land and build affordable housing for over-60s. That way, efforts can be concentrated on providing quality care, rather than companies forking out more for maintenance of properties on their own.
