Teens arrested after crash in Grays

TWO teenage girls were arrested after a car crashed and left a 19-year-old with serious injuries.

A silver Ford Mondeo collided with a post in Dock Road, Grays, around 1am yesterday.

The driver, a 19-year-old boy from Stanford-le-Hope, was rushed to Basildon Hopsital with serious head injuries.

Katie Poel, spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: “Two ambulances and a rapid response car were sent to the scene.

“At least one patient, was trapped in the vehicle, he had suffered serious injuries to his head, arm and pelvis.

“He was treated by ambulance crews and taken to Basildon Hospital.

“Two further patients had injuries which are not believed to be serious.

“They too were treated at the scene and taken to Basildon Hospital.”

A 16-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, and a 17-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of allowing herself to be carried in a stolen vehicle.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police closed the road for a number of hours while they investigated the scene, at the junction of St Mary’s Close, and have urged any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “ Enquiries continue in respect of the circumstances around the collision.

“Police are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle in or around the area of the collision.

“Anyone with information should contact Grays police station on 101.”
