Band's Olympic park honour

AVELEY and Newham Band made history by becoming the first brass band to perform in the Olympic Park.
They provided music for the 5,000 athletes taking part in a five-mile run around the venue, organised by the National Lottery. A spokesman for the band said: “We were stationed by the four mile marker and hopefully we gave the athletes that extra motivation to keep going for the final mile.
“The atmosphere in the venue was fantastic.”
