Elderly woman injured in hit-and-run car crash
12:17pm Saturday 7th April 2012 in News
AN elderly woman was injured in a hit-and-run car crash.
A 64-year old woman was left shaken and her 87-year-old mother with injuries to her legs, after they were hit by a car while driving along Abbotts Drive, in Stanford le Hope.
The motorist, thought to be driving a dark coloured, new shape Ford Focus, smashed into the front near side of their car as he pulled out of Plaistow Close.
He then reversed and took off towards Corringham.
Police are looking for a white male aged between late 20s to 30s who will have recent damage to the front off side of his vehicle.
Officers believe he may have had a passenger in the car who is also male.
Pc Alistair Sims said: "It was very fortunate that neither the driver, nor her 87 year old mother were seriously injured but how callous of the other driver to drive off without even checking that they were not hurt.
“I would appeal to anyone who sees a car fitting the description with new damage to the front, or anyone with any other information to contact me on 101 at Corringham."
The incident happened at around 8am today.

respectable NEVER !!!! benefit of the doubt, NOT LIKELY !! Oh John !! Security-Officer, you're probably on the button, with one or more of those ideas!!
Remember that story a while ago of that GP with the eyesight problem who killed an old woman while driving hos Porsche.
OK he stayed at the scene but he should not have even been on the road. A pillar of the community in most people's eyes up until then no doubt.
My point is 'respectable' appearance or position in the community can hide a thoroughly bad person.

Sorry John, you did not read the Officers post properly, he listed all of the possibilities, and left the reader to ' you Guess'.
His disgusting person is totally right.
Hope the driver and the passenger are both OK.
But we can certainly all agree whatever the reasons this driver was disgusting and cowardly in leaving the scene and wish the two women a full recovery.

naughtyladyofshadylaNo, he received a two-year custodial sentence for causing death by dangerous driving.

John you try to be so "nice" I always think I am nice till someone upsets me but not in a case like this . Yes i remember the case of the GP, terrible wasn't it. Don't remember the outcome of that, 'spose he was just banned from driving till he got his eyes sorted?
There was a petition raised by some of his colleagues and patients basically saying what a good guy he was or something along those lines.
He had been driving for years with multiple eye problems and as a GP was in the best possible position to know the risks.

That was the only point I was making that bad driving and disgraceful behaviour are by no means confined to the 'usual suspects' sometimes the most unexpected people do dreadful things and they are just as much to blame.
I concede I might have misunderstood security's earlier post (but maybe not).
Hope the women will be OK and the driver is caught. Awful behaviour whoever they turn out to be.

There is no excuse for this behavior ! He drove off, he reversed the car to get away, he did not stop to find out if he killed the lady or she needed urgent hospital treatment. Its a car, a piece of metal so if you was driving legally he would have stopped. Use you brain John and stop your pathetic comments. We all know the reason this savage drove away and again its he was either drunk or drugged up or had no insurance no license no mot drugs in car weapons in car disqualified driver wanted by police and as someone suggested an illegal immigrant and it could be a stolen car. Its 100% one of the above reasons. Don't be a fool John as it don't suit you !
! more than adequately answers your point from first hand and very sad experience.
The driver might be any of the things you say but we simply do not know at this stage.
I hope the coward is caught and made to face the consequences.

I am sure it would be very much appreciated and it is a shame if the care of the sick rests on the vagaries of winning a bet.

If you cause an accident, are involved in an accident etc, there are almost no reasons to leave the scene. (Unless you have a person dying in you car maybe, and are on your way to hospital...even then it's not cut and dry.)
At least no-one was seriously injured in this case.

In the meantime I have an open mind. It could be an apparently 'respectable' person too cowardly to face the consequences of their actions.

I think you are owed an explanation.

It was personal, vulgar and disrespectful to the victims of this incident, therefore I feel whoever reported it was correct in doing so.
If someone has a go at me I prefer to leave their comments up in the hope people will see how much they are showing themselves up. But there are limits and they are over stepped when it gets personal, especially against victims who have enough to contend with without some idiot trying to get clever.
