Elderly woman injured in hit-and-run car crash

AN elderly woman was injured in a hit-and-run car crash.

A 64-year old woman was left shaken and her 87-year-old mother with injuries to her legs, after they were hit by a car while driving along Abbotts Drive, in Stanford le Hope.

The motorist, thought to be driving a dark coloured, new shape Ford Focus, smashed into the front near side of their car as he pulled out of Plaistow Close.

He then reversed and took off towards Corringham.

Police are looking for a white male aged between late 20s to 30s who will have recent damage to the front off side of his vehicle.

Officers believe he may have had a passenger in the car who is also male.

Pc Alistair Sims said: "It was very fortunate that neither the driver, nor her 87 year old mother were seriously injured but how callous of the other driver to drive off without even checking that they were not hurt.

“I would appeal to anyone who sees a car fitting the description with new damage to the front, or anyone with any other information to contact me on 101 at Corringham."

The incident happened at around 8am today.
