Council Olympic cash dished out
7:20am Sunday 8th April 2012 in News
A HOST of organisations and groups in Thurrock have been given cash to help celebrate the Olympics.
Thurrock Council has shared out £20,000 between 36 groups in the borough, to help organise community events including street parties, fetes, fun days and a party in the park.
Organisations such as Ngage, schools, community forums and individual streets were awarded anything from £75 up to £2,000 from the pot. More than 90 people have also applied for Thurrock Council’s bunting kit.
The council has compiled a simple guide for people who want to celebrate safely, which is a one-stop-shop for dealing with all the bureaucratic details that are necessary for street closures, insurance and so on.
It is on the council’s website at www.thurrock.gov.uk, and can be accessed by clicking on the Celebrate Thurrock icon.
