SPEEDWAY: Purfleet track favourite Stuart Robson has nailed his colours to the mast in support of the Lakeside Hammers speedway team’s chances for the 2012 season.

He said: “The team is looking very strong this year.

“The management have made some really good signings over the winter and I think we have a very good chance of silverware this year as long as we all steer clear of those dreaded injuries and engine problems.

“This is the strongest team line up I have been in for a while and I’m looking forward to getting on track with them, and doing the business in front of the Hammers fans.”

Having already competed in some competitive track action this season with a series of challenge meetings for his Premier League side, the Newcastle Diamonds, Robbo has also been impressed with fellow Diamond and Hammers doubling up reserve rider Richie Worrall.

Robbo added: “Richie has started this season in excellent form. He’s a good young rider with a lot of potential, and looks like a different rider to last year, after spending the winter racing in Australia.”

The Hammers fans will be able to see their 2012 team take to the track tomorrow (Friday March 23) when the Club have arranged a special open night at Arena Essex Raceway when the Elite League squad will be present and there will also be track action for juniors looking to secure slots in the Young Hammers team for the newly formed Anglian Junior League. The pits will be open to the public from 6pm with track action beginning at 7.15pm. Ticket prices are £5 for adults and £1 for under 16s.
