Debate call over campus petition

OPPOSITION councillors are calling for a full council debate over the plans to build 362 homes on the college campus site.

Plans for the housing development on South Essex College’s current Woodview campus have attracted fierce opposition from residents, who handed in a 2,221 signature-petition to Thurrock Council officials.

Phil Anderson, leader of the Conservatives, wants a debate on the petition. He said: “Over 2,000 residents have submitted a petition to Thurrock Council, and this should automatically trigger a debate at a full council meeting.

“No debate has been scheduled for the next council meeting.

“I am concerned democracy is not being seen to be done.

“There are persuasive arguments on both sides of this issue and it’s vital for our credibility as elected representatives that we get to consider them in public.”

In fairness to the residents of Woodview, it is right that a debate is called on this development. The fact that Labour and the DC were happy to push this through without a care in the world shows how little they view planning issues. Although the site was earmarked as a place where future housebuilding could occur and agreed to by the Tories at least they are questioning whether this development is right for this space and listening to the residents rather than simply rolling over like the party currently in charge the council.

This needs to be a full independent enquiry, not a debate to give lip service, and appease local residents, what the council fail to acknowledge is that this is borough wide and not restricted to just the local residents.

There should be a full scrutinising of everything rubber stamped by the TGDC, especially with respect to housing as they seem to live in some parallel universe where people don’t have cars and go everywhere on public transport and the people moving in are all sterile and never going to have children. Any housing development that doesn’t have at least one off-road parking space per house and roads wide enough to accommodate a car parked either side and a gap wide enough for a lorry to get through and a block of flats that doesn’t have car parking with one space per flat and then provision for visitors shoud be binned at the first request. Also if they don’t have realistic views on infrastructure such as schools and shops, again bin them.
I know that this would go against the “cram ‘em in” / “pile ‘em high” mentality of housing developers.
The problem with this is there is no justifiable need for a new college, other than people it won’t affect saying we want a new college. If the Woodview site was in danger of overspill due to lack of space for expansion then fine build a new college, but there are acres of space and buildings already in place, which there isn’t in the town centre, unless the council are going to rubber stamp knocking down more buildings to the south of the railway. I wonder if the Tech could be put up for listing, given that it is such a locally recognisable building. As someone has said Palmer’s College functions perfectly well with the current transport provision etc, so this is not an argument for moving The Tech.
The people of Basildon should also be aware that there are/were plans to move Basildon College to a town centre location.

I think we need to give Cllrs the ability to change their minds, even if it’s only because the result of their actions have been questioned. As I have said previously, we all change our minds over things and would not expect to be vilified for doing so.

Hi my name is Leanne Drain I know this has nothing do with the debate. but I have written a piece about my view and what should be done about bullying its in a story.

Bullies and victims reunite

Bullies destroy your life they treat you like a piece of scattered rubbish which lay’s on the broken cold floor. They have no feeling, they have no contentment or altruistic light they sit in the corner of the navigated classroom harrowing there next target. Targeting you like you are a target board ready to strike a lightning bolt straight through your heart it feels like they treat you like dirt for all they do is pick you up and place you in the heretics bin and leave you there in pure obscurity they want you to suffer pain and anguish .because bullies want the attention the spot light which comes from the illuminating ceiling.
They say there is always a reason why person is so insecure and brutally horrible to others, they say it’s a message that needs to be read out loud to tell the world why a person would be so mean and cause such misery to another.

Something’s missing from their intellectual brain a nerve has switched a corner and turned left instead of right an electric shock running through their bodies urging them to taunt others erotically and hurt them because they feel the vindictive pain too shooting through there erotic veins the blood that runs through there tempered bodies is spilt when they hurt another a simple word is spelled out as they cast their remaining ashes to the ground .the burnt parchment is studied by people who think they can stop bullies but how can you when they are getting taunted and disheartened there self’s. The word that runs through their handspike brains is sadness and emerged tears fall from their crystallized face there victim is mesmerized as they stare at the bullies who have taunted and molested their life’s . The message is simple as they figure it out for they the bullies are bullies because they are delisted there self’s this is the only way they can get their roughage anger out the only way they can react to their horrent problems. The victims stare vividly as they raise their fragile arms to comfort the bullies who have token their remaining happiness away the bullies are outraged and astonished at the same time why would such kind gentle people touch and feel them so carefully after everything they have done wouldn’t they just leave them there in the freezing aortic weather and burn their bodies with faradic flames and then send them to erotica burning hell where they will remain forever until their veins stop pumping around their twisted muscled body . but instead their brain insists on the velvet touch of their little hands around their hard necks and they give into temptation they start crying hysterically begging them for forgiveness but the victims just smile and cuddle them more the bullies are lost for words and start to feel a lot better inside the altruistic sun rises from the magical horizon and it reflects of the alluring waterfall that sparkles continuously through the day until the night is upon those who try their best to endive their luck and change it for the better. If you are wondering what happened to the savouring victims and the malicious bullies well let’s just say they are the best of friends. And now the world is a better peaceful energetic place where peace is restored and there are no more drowning echoes that fill the beautiful shimmering skies.
If it wasn’t for them terrified victims the bullies would have never stopped they always say that a problem shared is a problem solved. And I say that is absolutely right for the phyla present was horrid for the victims but the bullies learnt a lesson from the victims they taunted for over a year that you should never judge a book by its cover and learn that life can be hard and difficult but when you speak about it, it regales all the empathy you have trapped in your tuneful bodies.
