Sixth form centre plan agreed

PLANNING officials approved scaled-back plans for a new sixth form centre at the Harris Academy in Chafford Hundred.

The new sixth form centre and business and enterprise college will cover 1,043 sq m, as opposed to previous plans for a 1,420 sq m building.

The development will be built as an addition to the secondary school, in Mayflower Road, for up to 200 pupils.

Funding for the development has also been reduced after the school became an academy last year.

Speaking during the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation meeting, planning officer Kirsty Towler said the school would fund the development itself.

Is this a consequence of the new college being built? In that build this and less will want to go to the new college.
