A LORRY driver was crushed to death after a trailer fell on him at Tilbury Docks.

The 68-year-old man died at a distribution centre at the docks while picking up a trailer load of paper.

It is believed another trailer fell on the man, who was from Southampton, while he was outside his lorry.

Paramedics were called just after 9pm on Wednesday night to reports of a collision between a male pedestrian and a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation has been launched by the police and the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokeswoman for the Port of Tilbury, said: "There has been an incident involving a driver of an independent haulage operator within the Enterprise Distribution Centre.

"The incident involved an operation being undertaken by the haulier within port.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this time."
