THURROCK Conservatives are calling for swifter action to help Private Alex Stringer.
In April the council agreed to set up a veterans’ charter to support servicemen and women returning to civilian life.
The first meeting was held last month, but Tory spokesman Cllr Danny Nicklen, who is chairing the new charter group, said things aren’t happening quickly enough for Mr Stringer.
He said: “The case of Private Alex Stringer shows both the need for this charter and the fact the council is not getting it right yet.
“Individuals like Private Stringer can’t wait for policies and processes, they need help now.”
Cllr Nicklen is now calling for immediate action to help Mr Stringer.
He added: “Actions speak louder than words, and by giving Private Stringer the help he needs to live a normal family life, the council can show it is serious about supporting those who have given so much in the service of our country.”
