THURROCK’S MP has probed a Government official about attacks on horses during a House of Commons debate.
Jackie Doyle-Price raised questions to the Secretary of State for Justice about the number of convictions there have been for offences which involved horses and on animal owners.
Mrs Doyle-Price said: “I have tabled these questions to establish whether there is adequate provision in law to bring to justice perpetrators of crimes such as the one in South Ockendon. I am also in touch with the Pony Club and the RSPCA on this matter.”
The questions follow the brutal killing of a Shetland pony at Kemp Farm, in Stafford Hill, Stafford Clays, on May 9.
Its owner had gone to check on it in stables when she caught two men hacking it to death.
A 31-year-old man from Grays and a 30-year-man from South Ockendon, arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, will return to answer bail later this summer.
