AN old chalk quarry in Purfleet could soon be home to a 52 bedroom hotel.
Goodman Thurrock has got the greenlight from Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation to fill Bluelands Quarry, off Stonehouse Lane, and outline planning permission to build a new hotel and two warehouses there.
The quarry is currently full of rain water, and the DC's planning committee heard that it is likely to take just over two years to fill it with building materials, leading to 200 lorry movements a day from the site.
The committee heard 49 letters of objection had been received from residents.
Their concerns included a loss of green space and a natural buffer between residential areas and the M25, an overprovision of hotels and warehousing in the area, and an increase in traffic, congestion, pollution and dust.
