A CALL centre worker is hoping to hit the big time after getting through her first audition for the X Factor.

Singer Charlotte Dawson, 22, from Linford, sailed through the first audition for the ITV talent contest, and hopes to carry that success through to her next audition at London’s Excel Centre on Sunday, April 3.

The former St Clere’s School pupil, who now works at a call centre in Romford dealing with life assurance, endowments and pensions, said: “To get through to the next stage was a fantastic achievement.

“I still have a long way to go, but to be one of the 2,000 out of around 7,000 that went through that day was unbelievable.

“It’s a really big sense of achievement.”

Charlotte, who lists Celine Dion, Leona Lewis and Mariah Carey among her musical heroes, sung Somebody To Love by Queen and I Wanna Dance With Somebody by Whitney Houston at her first audition, but is actually a keen songwriter and musician herself.

She added: “ I do not have a musical style as such.

“When writing music on my own, I tend to stick to piano ballads.

“However, I have started to be a bit more creative and have written a few songs within other genres with other musicians, such as rap, r’n’b, techno, dance and rave.

“I like to be versatile. I sing covers from the latest chart hits, back to songs from the 50s and upwards, and also like to sing some classical and theatrical songs such as Pie Jesu, I Dreamed a Dream, and Ave Maria.”
