A FIRE engine was pelted with fireworks at the weekend by “mindless hooligans” in Tilbury.
The fire fighters had been called to Adelaide Road on Saturday evening at 7.24pm because the thugs had put lit fireworks through the letter boxes of two properties in the street.
Half an hour later, while two fire fighters were inspecting the properties, their fire engine was attacked with fireworks.
There was no damage to the appliance, and the two fire fighters sitting inside it were unhurt.
A fire service spokesman said: “Mindless hooligans triggered two incidents in the same road within minutes of each other and then attacked firefighters in an appliance.
“Fortunately in this case, no-one was injured but this was a series of entirely senseless attacks on homes and crews sent out to protect the community.
"Playing with fireworks is a dangerous and stupid thing to do and nine times out of ten involves some kind of injury."
